The role of the psychologist in emergency and urgent care teams: Contributions to comprehensive care.

The role of psychologists in emergency services has become increasingly relevant in addressing the emotional and psychosocial demands present in these contexts. This study aimed to discuss the role of psychologists in emergency teams, highlighting their contributions to promoting comprehensive health care. This is a qualitative, descriptive bibliographic study, developed through a review of the scientific literature. Data collection was carried out between February and April 2026 in the SciELO, PePSIC, and BVS databases, using descriptors related to psychology, emergency services, comprehensive care, and mental health. Nine studies were selected for analysis. The results showed that psychologists play a fundamental role in managing crisis situations, offering immediate emotional support, and mediating relationships between patients, families, and the health team. Furthermore, their work contributes to the humanization of care by considering the subjective dimensions of illness. However, challenges related to consolidating the practice remain, such as the predominance of the biomedical model and the need for specific training. It is concluded that the inclusion of psychologists in these services is essential for the effective implementation of comprehensive care, and that further studies and investments in professional training are necessary.
