Palliative Care, Grief and Public Health: Strategies for Welcoming and Supporting Bereaved Families in the SUS

Abstract

Introduction: Grief is a natural process that can have significant impacts on the mental and emotional health of bereaved families. In the context of the Unified Health System (SUS), assistance to these families must be integrated with palliative care, promoting adequate support and reception. The humanization of public health requires effective strategies to minimize the adverse effects of grief and ensure more sensitive and efficient care. Objective: To analyze the importance of palliative care and reception strategies for bereaved families in the SUS. Methodology: The research was developed through a bibliographic review based on scientific articles, book chapters and dissertations on palliative care and grief support in the SUS. Results and Discussions: Grief support in the SUS is still limited, and it is necessary to strengthen public policies aimed at comprehensive assistance for bereaved families. The implementation of active listening programs, psychological support and professional training can contribute to more humanized care. Final Considerations: The incorporation of grief support as part of palliative care is essential for improving the assistance provided by the SUS. Investing in training professionals and expanding support networks can result in positive results in the quality of life of bereaved families. In this way, strengthening these strategies contributes to a more inclusive and humanized health system.
